Vintage On Selby

Vintage on Selby is located at the intersection of Selby and Snelling Avenues in St. Paul, a corner that is home to a thriving mix of independent and locally owned restaurants and boutiques. Throughout the project development, which included relocation of an Associated Bank branch, the development team worked closely with the Selby at Snelling Business Association by leading an association rebranding process, utilizing the construction fence line to promote local businesses, and even creating a local holiday gift shopping guide for distribution to all the construction workers onsite.  Neighborhood feedback was similarly incorporated into the building design through close partnership with the Union Park District Council.  A new 40,000 SF Whole Foods Market anchors the main intersection and town home-style apartments line the street along Selby Avenue.  The upper floors are stepped back so that, from the pedestrian experience, the building appears to match the height of the surrounding buildings.  Two 30-foot murals by local artist Kada Goalen activate the street corners. Within the building interior, reused materials from the bank previously located on the site and found objects from local vintage shops add to the building’s unique character; the bank’s safety deposit boxes were repurposed as the front desk and wood from the bank building exterior was reused within Whole Foods Market.  The building management team remain active members of the Selby at Snelling Business Association and Vintage hosts the local district council monthly meetings. The result of this collaborative development was an exceptional project that enhanced the neighborhood and attracted new residents that valued and celebrated the existing charm.  The 210 apartments filled in 8 months and remain in high demand.
